Tiling
Christchurch
Wall tiling needs to be planned properly before the first tile is fixed. JSR Tiling focuses on clean set-out, accurate cuts, suitable waterproofing where required, and neat grout and silicone finishing across bathrooms, kitchens, laundries, commercial bathrooms, apartments, and feature walls.

Wall tiling is both functional and visual. In wet areas, correct waterproofing and preparation determine whether the work lasts. In feature areas, set-out and finishing determine the final look. JSR Tiling covers both — from bathroom and shower walls to laundries, feature walls, and kitchen splashbacks.
Kitchen splashbacks are a specialised subcategory of our wall tiling. Beyond the home, we also handle commercial bathrooms, office and retail fit-outs, and apartment projects.

Waterproofing behind the tile
Behind every wet-area wall, the waterproofing is what protects the building. We waterproof to specification before tiling — including sheet membrane systems such as ARDEX WPM 750 where suitable — across showers, bathrooms, and laundries.
See our dedicated waterproofing service for wet-area systems, and our floor tiling page where walls and floors meet.
Straight lines, clean cuts
Careful wall preparation, straight lines, and symmetrical cuts where possible are what separate a tidy wall from an average one. We tile around niches, vanities, windows, mirrors, cabinetry, and fixtures, with tiled window returns and neat grout and silicone finishing.
We work with ARDEX and Mapei systems and coordinate with builders, designers, plumbers, electricians, and joiners. For whole-home and trade work see residential, commercial, and builder tiling.
Wall Tiling Questions
What areas of a home can be wall tiled?
Bathrooms, showers, ensuites, kitchens, laundries, and feature walls are all common. We tile wet-area walls, splashbacks, full-height walls, niches, and window returns — anywhere a tiled wall suits the space.
Do bathroom wall tiles need waterproofing behind them?
In wet areas, yes. We waterproof to specification behind wet-area wall tiles, using sheet membrane systems such as ARDEX WPM 750 where suitable. See our waterproofing page for more.
Can you install large-format tiles on walls?
Yes. Large-format wall tiles need the right substrate preparation, adhesive, and fixings to sit flat without lippage. We are set up for large formats and slab tiles — see our large format tiling page.
Can you tile around niches, vanities, mirrors, and windows?
Yes — tiled niches, window returns, and clean cuts around vanities, mirrors, cabinetry, and fixtures are standard. Careful set-out is what makes these details look right.
What is the difference between wall tiling and floor tiling?
Wall and floor tiling use different tiles, preparation, and fixing methods — floor tiles are rated for foot traffic and need a level, load-bearing substrate. We do both, and coordinate them so walls and floors line up. See our floor tiling page.
Do you install kitchen splashbacks?
Yes — kitchen splashbacks are a specialised part of our wall tiling work. See our dedicated kitchen tiling page for splashback and feature-wall detail.
Do you do commercial wall tiling?
Yes. We tile commercial bathrooms, office and retail fit-outs, apartments, and staff amenities, coordinating with main contractors and shopfitters. See our commercial tiling page.
Can silicone be colour-matched to the tile or grout?
Yes — we colour-match silicone to your selected finish so the joins are tidy and consistent rather than standing out against the tile or grout.
