Christchurch mornings can be cold. Stepping onto a warm tiled floor in your bathroom or kitchen changes the experience entirely. JSR Tiling installs electric undertile heating mat systems as part of our tiling service — so the prep, the heating mat, and the tiles are handled by one team, with one point of contact.
Electric mat systems are thin, reliable, and inexpensive to run. They're most cost-effective to install during a bathroom renovation or new build — before the tiles go down. We coordinate with your electrician for the thermostat connection.

Underfloor Heating Questions
What types of underfloor heating do you install?
We install electric undertile heating mat systems — the most practical and cost-effective option for bathrooms, ensuites, and kitchen areas. These are thin, low-profile electric mats installed beneath the tile with a thermostat controller.
Can underfloor heating go under any tile?
Most ceramic, porcelain, and stone tiles are compatible with electric underfloor heating. We will confirm compatibility with your chosen tile during the quoting process. Timber-look and LVT tiles require specific low-wattage systems.
How much does underfloor heating add to a bathroom renovation?
An electric mat system for a standard bathroom or ensuite typically adds $400–800 to the installation cost, depending on the floor area. It is most cost-effective to install during a full bathroom renovation before tiling.
Does underfloor heating affect the tile installation?
The heating mat is installed directly over the prepared substrate and covered with a flexible adhesive and the tiles. It adds minimal height — usually 3–5mm including the mat and adhesive. We account for this in our substrate preparation and door thresholds.
Is a thermostat included?
We install the heating mat and associated conduit for the thermostat. Electrical connection to a thermostat controller is carried out by your electrician — we coordinate this so the installation is seamless.
